Green Days is a community festival which includes a wide variety of activities sponsored by community organizations, chamber members and volunteers. Each year a number of volunteers and organizations help make Green Days a success by organizing activities that occur throughout the weekend.   Review the list of activities below to make sure you don’t miss out! The list will be updated as we add or edit our events, so check this page often!

Carnival
Thursday June 16th – 6 PM-10 PM Carnival Open (Unlimited rides with purchase of $25 wristband- weather permitting)

Light the Night for Sight Walk
Thursday, June 16th – 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

There is no cost to participate. Walkers are encouraged to raise donations to support Prevent Blindness Iowa’s sight saving programs. Those raising $100 will receive a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt.

Camp Dodge Exhibit

Live in person military equipment, vehicles and other Iowa National Guard challenge activities. Rock/Climbing Wall, HUMVEEs, Mobile Kitchen display


Public Safety Expo
Saturday, June 18th – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join the Johnston Police Department and Johnston Fire Department for a public safety expo. Police and Fire vehicles will be on site for kids to explore.


Smokin’ Heroes Meat Smoking Competition
Saturday June 18th 1:00 pm – 4:00pm

To continue building upon the sister city relationship with Kosovo and providing Johnston youth the opportunity to attend the Toka International Camp in 2022, the Johnston Police Department has partnered with the Johnston Rotary to help make this opportunity possible. They will be hosting the Annual Smokin’ Heroes Smoke-off event on Saturday, June 19, during Johnston Green Days. The event is open to the public to sample the delicious smoked meats and side dishes and will run from 1:00pm to 4:00 p.m. with a free will offering. Votes will be tabulated and the winner will be announced around 4:30.

Terra Park Nature Play Time and Story Stroll

Join staff from Johnston Public Library at this special outdoor play time. We will offer different types of play prompts, sensory bins, and a craft to take home! Geared towards ages 3 and up, but all ages are welcome! From 9 to 10 a.m. at the pavilion near the Terra Park Playground.

Join us for a self-guided Story Stroll! Families will enjoy strolling along sidewalks near Terra Park while reading a picture book which is displayed on posts along the sidewalk. For all ages, available all-day Saturday near the Terra Park Playground Pavilion.
