Public Safety Expo

The Johnston Police Department will offer two free services for the safety of children during the Johnston Green Days celebration on the afternoon of Saturday, June 21, 2008. Officers will be available for the Kid Pix identification program, and a Child Safety Seat Inspection. They will be outside the Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road.

Kid Pix offers an opportunity for parents to obtain a laminated photo identification card of their child. The purpose of the identification card is so that parents have a current and accurate identification of their child on hand that can be provided to authorities for identification purposes should their child become missing. The identification includes the child’s name, date of birth, physical description and photograph (taken at the booth). The card is developed at the Kid Pix booth and is provided to parents while they wait.  Depending on demand, the entire process takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The Child Safety Seat Inspection offers parents an opportunity to ensure their child’s car seat is properly installed in their vehicle. Installation of these seats is often complicated and, as a result, many of the seats are incorrectly installed. The assisting officer has been nationally certified in the installation process and will ensure that the safety seats are correctly installed in the vehicle. The officer can also provide recommendations on which style and brand of safety seats are best for a specific child. Depending on the style of vehicle involved, the entire process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
