Field to
Food Olympics at Johnston Green Days
Saturday, June 21, 2008: 2 pm – 4 pm, Johnston Library, west lawn
The
National Agri-Marketing Association’s Field to Food Olympics will be
held Saturday June 21, at the Johnston Library as a part of the
community’s Green Days Festival. This new event evolved from the 5k
run we had sponsored for the previous 13 years. The purpose of the
event is to showcase the connection between Iowa Agriculture and the
food we eat.
All
proceeds from the event are donated to agricultural charities or
not-for-profit organizations. To-date, we have donated over $60,000
through Field to Food events. The 2008 beneficiaries will be the
Iowa FFA Foundation and Farm Safety 4 Just Kids.
Stations:
A)
Dress for
Success: putting on coveralls, gloves, hats, boots etc.
B)
Find the
Soybean: Digging through a pile of corn to find a soybean.
C)
Pedal Tractor:
Ride a pedal tractor through a short obstacle course.
D)
Chore Time:
Carry hay bales thru an obstacle course and stack them.
In
addition to the Olympics, Farm Safety 4 Just Kids will have a hazard
hunt display set up to help children identify hidden dangers lurking
in the rural environment; a Jeopardy farm safety trivia contest; and
educational brochures, coloring books, and wristbands for the
kids.
There is
no cost to participate in any of the events, but donations are
welcome.
